Dear Mr. Tunison and Directors:

RE:  Highway 4 Bypass Name Change

Let us change the “HWY 4 BYPASS” road name to “John Marsh Parkway.”

Increased awareness of John Marsh, his pioneer legacy, and historic dwelling suggest an alternative name to presently named “HWY 4 BYPASS” connecting Lone Tree Road to Marsh Creek Road south of Brentwood.  True, “HWY 4 BYPASS” is certainly descriptive, but in no way indicative of the rich history of our area.  Gentlemen, rename the State Highway 4 Bypass.

You are no doubt aware of John Marsh, our early California Pioneer.  The State of California has just recently acquired 3,600 acres surrounding the Marsh’s Stone House.  The present Highway 4 bypass will be the major route to the proposed John Marsh Home State Historic Park.  Whereas, the bypass functions now as the primary route around Brentwood, its role will expand as the Pioneer Park develops.

This proposed name change, or variation on “John Marsh Parkway,” will serve several purposes:  commemorate a principal player in California statehood, direct visitors to the Park, and emphasize the automotive throughway.  Both the Board of Directors of the John Marsh Historic Trust and Friends of John Marsh endorses this name change.  We urge you to pass the appropriate resolution to effect this change.

Any one of our board members would be pleased to discuss this matter with Bypass Authority and provide documentation about John Marsh, the Stone House, and the proposed State Park.  Contact me the above address or telephone at:  916 487-4467.  Immediate information about John Marsh or the Trust is available at our website: http://www.johnmarshhosue.com.  Thank you for your consideration of this proposal.

Yours truly,

John Mackenzie
