Rededication of the Marsh Monument On September 23, 2007 the Native Daughters of the Golden West rededicated the John and Abby Marsh Monument near the Great Stone House on Marsh Creek Road, Brentwood. The Native Daughters of the Golden West, Donner Parlor #193 had originally dedicated the monument in 1932.
![]() The covered wagon with pioneer children. The replica of a covered wagon was donated to the John Marsh Historic Trust by Bob and Gloria Bailey. At the rededication Bob and Gloria Bailey owners of Bailey's Rental, presented the John Marsh Historic Trust with a beautiful reconstruction of a pioneer covered wagon. The wagon will be kept at the East County History Museum for public viewing until the opening of the new John Marsh Historic Park. There it will be used as an educational tool to teach children about our American heritage.
![]() Bob Taylor, Mayor of Brentwood. Bob Taylor, Major of Brentwood and Carol Jensen, John Marsh Historic Trust Treasurer, chaired the rededication. The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department Color Guard led off the ceremony. Craig Mattson, State Park Supervisor, Diablo Vista District, gave an inspirational speech about the importance of this newest state historic park and the need to restore the Marsh's Stone House. Kathleen Mero, John Marsh Historic Trust Historian, spoke on the historical importance of Dr. March and his neglect in our history books.
![]() The County Sheriff's Department Color Guard. Representatives of Mary Piepho, County Supervisor, Tom Torlakson, State Senator, and Jerry McNearney, U.S. Congressman, were present giving their support to all the efforts to preserve an important part of American history.

![]() Carol Jensen, John Marsh Historic Trust Treasurer. Dorothy Ambrose, Faith Mattos, and Joan Hall represented the various chapters of the Native Daughters of the Golden West and also spoke at the plaque rededication. Carol Jensen announced that the Junior Girl Scouts of troops 13, 131 and 2888 of Brentwood have adopted the Marsh and Abby Monument and will work to keep it neat and clean. A number of the girl scouts were present showing their support for the project.
